The Origin of Crawford’s Casting

Alan Crawford graduated from the University of New South Wales with a B.Sc (Ind. Arts) Hons. in 1972. After graduating he became involved in sculpture and the process of fine art casting. For many years Alan taught mould making and foundry techniques to Fine Arts and Architecture students at the “Tin Sheds”, located within the University of Sydney campus. With encouragement from some prominent artists at that time, he left the teaching profession and started casting for artists full time.

In 2005 Alan was joined by his son Matthew Crawford (B.Sc. Hons Geophysics). Upon the retirement of Alan in 2010, Matthew together with his experienced team of founders and technicians, continued to provide some of the highest quality fine art castings and finishes in Australia and around the world.

How has Crawford's Casting established itself today?

Based in Strathfield South, Sydney since 1992, Crawford's Casting has continued to provide a high level of service to the arts and culture in Australia and around the world. Crawford’s has cast many of the admired artworks and monuments around Sydney and surrounding regions, including both the Diggers on Anzac Bridge, Henry Parkes in Centennial Park, the Martin Place fountains and the Sir James Martin statues. Also worth mentioning is the Bull on the corner of Pitt and Liverpool Street, the Youngsters located in Rhodes and on Barrack St in the CBD and many of the life-sized figures surrounding the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium.

What does Crawford’s Casting offer?

Crawford’s Casting Pty Ltd is a fine art foundry that has been casting for artists since 1976. We cater to both domestic and international artists, architects, designers and students.

The foundry was predominantly established to meet the needs of artists working with bronze sculptures, and continues to offer a comprehensive foundry facility and artisan techniques to assist artists and others in creating traditional or contemporary fine art.

Our focus is to work with artists throughout the casting process to ensure that expectations are met, and to collaborate at key phases of the casting cycle. We do this to enable the artists vision to become a reality. Our team strives to build strong working relationships with all our clients no matter the scale of the project before us.

Artists are our business, without artists Crawford’s would not have been presented with the opportunity to create, collaborate and produce some of the finest artworks worldwide”, Matthew Crawford
